Dr. Ayoub obtained his Medical Degree from Creighton University School of Medicine, Omaha in 1999, before taking up residency at UCLA/West Los Angeles Veteran Administration Hospital. Between 2002–2006, Professor Ayoub conducted fellowships in Hepatology and Gastroenterology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and UCLA, respectively. He then became Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Stanford University until 2012. He is currently Professor of Medicine, the Associate Medical Director of liver transplantation, and the founder and the director of the autoimmune and cholestatic liver disease program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Dr. Ayoub is board certified in Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology. He has been involved in several clinical trials investigating novel pharmacological therapies for primary biliary cholangitis, primary sclerosis cholangitis, fatty liver disease, liver cancer, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C and liver impairment. He is currently a primary investigator for clinical trials assessing the efficacy of novel agents in the treatment of metabolic-dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), primary biliary cholangitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis. He is a member of the PSC CALiD consortium- Clinical Outcomes of Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis in North America. He served as a co-primary investigator on NIH/NCI sponsored multicenter trial addressing the chemoprevention role of statin on hepatocellular carcinoma.

Dr. Ayoub has been an invited speaker at the Digestive Disease Week, American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and the American Transplant Congress meetings discussing and moderating sessions on treatment of viral hepatitis, treatment of liver cancer, and the impact of immunotherapy on the outcome of liver transplantation in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.

Dr. Ayoub is currently a member of steering committees for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B and primary biliary cholangitis. Dr Ayoub served as a member of the Hepatology Associate Committee of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD). He is also a Fellow at AASLD and a member of the American Gastroenterological Society, American College of Gastroenterology and American Society of Transplantation.
Dr. Ayoub has also held responsibilities as Editor of Journal of Pancreatic Disorders & Therapy and a reviewer for a variety of journals such as the American Journal of Transplantation, Liver Transplantation, Gastroenterology, Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology and Digestive Diseases and Sciences.

Dr. Ayoub’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including Hepatology, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, American Journal of Transplantation, Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Clinics in Liver Disease, and Journal of Viral Hepatitis and he has also written numerous reviews, book chapters and abstracts.
